" frightens us nierycerskich people, threatening danger, which, though no doubt a terrible, is not yet so very big, so that would undermine our constancy in defending the Faith, the Holy Image and your own good. (...) We have at least some of the permanent project to avoid contact with heretical nation, whose tyrannical rule of the brzydzimy shabbily. "
Prior Kordecki Augustine, Jasna Gora, December 1655,
In December 1655, the castle in Krzepice died in terrible agony of its current resident. Colonel Horn, the Swedish army officer who occupied Polish territories, came here from a distant country after his own death. Seriously wounded during the siege of Jasna Gora monastery, asked God for mercy - About the imminent death. The soul, however, did not want to leave the tormented body.

conquest by the regiments of the Republic of Swedish King Carl Gustaf had all the characteristics of unbridled disaster. Zgnuśniała, watching only for the Polish nobility of self-interest has not been able to organize effective resistance. The country, until recently uncontested power in this part of Europe, fell the sea flooded the enemy. Everywhere stood garrisons of foreign troops. Colonel Horn, the Swedish families deserved, was appointed governor of Krzepice.
Violent conduct Swedish soldiers caused severe conflicts. One of the major sources of conflicts were religious differences. Protestant occupiers of the peculiar pleasure of Catholic places of worship profaned.

November 8, 1655, the Swedish two hundred horsemen, under the leadership of the Czech adventurer, Count Weyharda Wrzesowicza, tried to address the spiritual capital of the Polish - the monastery of Jasna Gora. The attackers found the gates closed, out of revenge burned the buildings at St.. Barbara. Four days later, again invaded Wrzesowicz monastic estates.
November 18 nadciągnęły the main forces of the enemy. Burchard Miller led the general of 1600 soldier - Swedes, Finns, Germans, Poles and obedient to them, and 8 guns. In the following weeks, despite the losses, Miller has increased the size of troops to 3,000 people. Was among them Krzepicki Governor, Colonel Horn.
general of Miller (Müller), Germany, the Swedish service, did not attach much importance to the tasks commissioned him to take the monastery. He, a veteran of the Thirty Years War in Germany, a member of many fierce battles, in this fanatical enemy of "the Catholic superstition," Jasna Góra fortress called contemptuously 'Hen. " He could not foresee that this "house" will become the grave of his wartime fame.

Puszkarzy both sides of the duel was interrupted from time to time of the ceasefire, during which the Swedish parliament tried to persuade jasnogórców to surrender.

Poles made two "tours" - the armed raids against enemy positions. Minerskie stopped work, removing the mine corridor and knocking out the miners, zagwoździli or four runs. During the first of the rallies, stricken peasant scythe Colonel Horn fell.

December 10 Miller received new reinforcements. From Krakow came six heavy guns, including two 24-pounders półkartauny. Only the next day at the monastery fell 340 large caliber rounds.
For jasnogórców came the hard times. Enemy fire caused considerable damage. Cannon balls here and there managed to break through fortifications. Launched at the convent torches made from rolled up oblanych cannabis resin, tar and caused several fires. Special respect aroused grenades and bombs filled with gunpowder. Prior Kordecki recalled: "The advocate of Calvinist superstition, thinking that its not enough to saturate the severity of disturbance may be the servants of the Mother of God weapon, he thought his anger still sacrilege to enlarge, then chose to storm the bottom in honor of Mary N. intended. (...) It seemed as if hell itself had opened its mouth against the image of the saint. (...) When the procession came out of the Mass between the bulwark, flew a huge scrap metal walls, and the whistling balls (weighing at 26 pounds) flew, not without great fear, more than heads praying. Nobody in such a terrible danger, he went not to the walls before they worship. Undertaken only after the prayers, trusting in God's help (which was only people in the monastery both sexes), divided between their responsibilities and any attached the podług their forces as najdzielniej the defense. (...) Miller angrily raised his rage he let go the reins, and ordered a new terrible and horrible the fire started throwing missiles, a huge roar, shaking the air and land ... "

"(...) a burning ball of (...) fell next to the cradle of the child, but neither the infant is not damaged, nor did not err in its cradle."
"(...) one of them, although stuck in the roof of the Chapel of Our Lady, but suddenly jerked, the second (...) as if a hidden force repelled turned back toward the camp, after a terrible fire, scattering the air. "
in unexpectedly on Christmas Day has exploded in the biggest Swedish:
"(...) heard it from the same Swedes in the camp (...) the ball against the monastery walls thrown from the walls odskakiwały often violent outburst, and returned to the camp. (...) Power reflected from the walls of the ball has shattered, and the gunner standing beside him was killed. "

the blasphemers and heretics within the ranks świętokradców fell harsh punishment:
" In fact, he lighted a hideous lust for profit, promised himself and his fellow bounty with a multitude of abundant riches of Jasna Gora. (...) At this very moment the ball hits the wall once set him on the head, precipitates speaking from his horse to the ground and with life in it quenches thirst sacrilegious spoils. "

" Special Event bigotry Miller abstained because five gunners from ignition of gunpowder oślepło ... "

Death went a step by step for Miller. If someone was holding His punishing hand, wishing to see the pass mark jakowyś chief heretics:
"(...) the leader of the Swedish guns fired (...) to Miller's position, so that of putting to sleep his nephew in the stomach and the bullet struck his uncle's corpse on the bed lay. This case would be met Miller himself had he not been resolved that unfortunate nephew bed ... "
" (...) Miller was in the bottom of a terrible sight, since one of the leaders military, while talking familiarly with him in his apartment, hit by a bullet in the side, fell on his face and died instantly. "
" when the general of sitting at a table with some of the elders in the evening, cannon ball (...) fell between biesiadujących, toppled All bottles and glasses and broke part of the table ... "

Miller finally understood the message, and maybe it scared the effects seen raid on the monastery. Here are enthralled the nation, has just brought to its knees, was created to fight, the news of the conduct of the Swedes. Thunder siege Department spoke to echo in the soul and the heart of every Catholic. Ms. Jasna Gora led his legions into battle against hordes of godless heretics.

December 27, 1655, the Swedes folded the siege. Many poczytywało a miracle that died in the fighting only six defenders - four during the shelling of the monastery and two during the "tours". Amazingly, we all bore the name of John (the seventh victim was a Polish monastery farm manager, also John, killed by the Swedes at the beginning of the siege).
Stop fighting also resulted in Governor Krzepice solace. Wounded during the "tour" jasnogórców, for many days in vain asked God for merciful death. Physicians were helpless, unable to alleviate the suffering of the dying man, whose body was rotting in life, releasing hideous stench. It was not until Dec. 27, the day the Swedes to depart from the Jasna Gora, Colonel Horn gave up the ghost.
